Today let me tell you a story.
One that is about the New Year and how it is filled with endless possibilities,
It is the reset button, the chance you have been waiting for to refresh yourself,
To become a new you.
But what hides around the corner,
Is something that you may not want to admit to,
In the world that is telling you everything you should have done by now,
(After all, you are four days into the New Year),
Your resolutions should all be set and all your plans for the year laid out before you.
However, it is possible that you may be feeling a little behind?
Overwhelmed and not sure where to start?
The thought of resolutions feels like pressure to you, like you are trying to force 2017 to be your best year yet.
All you can think of is everything that you should be doing: losing weight, getting fit, eating healthy, cleaning the house, becoming organised, saving, holidays, the list just goes on and on.
Its always there in your mind, the never-ending list.
When someone asks you what your New Year resolution is,
You find yourself mumbling something about how you don’t believe in them.
Only to be told how important resolutions and goals are,
It is the start of a New Year, after all!
So you find your mind begins wondering, thinking of that load of washing you have to do, or that item you can’t forget to add to the shopping list. (What was that again?) You begin to notice the following questions swirling through your mind…
- OK, so what should my New Years resolution be?
- What about an intention or guiding word for the year instead?
- I am back to work soon, am I ready for that?
- What happens if I don’t set a New Years resolution yet?
- Oh I just don’t know what to do, am I failure for not having my stuff together?
And before you know it, the freshness of the year changes to feeling heavy and thick. You swore to yourself that this year, 2017, was going to be different, you were going to have your stuff all sorted, kick butt and feel amazing. Already though, it feels like Groundhog Day.
What if I was to tell you, that everything you wanted is still possible even if you don’t set yourself a New Years resolution? Or even an intention for the year?
How would that feel to you?
So if you are finding setting a New Years resolution is stressing you out, or making you feel that you are already falling behind in 2017, I want you to take a moment to look within.
You see, we do not need a New Year to bring about change in our lives. Amazing things can happen every day of the year. It is about creating what works for you, moulding and shaping the life you desire.
So, I would like to encourage you to take a moment for yourself when you can have a look at what it is you want to do with your year. Is it being more organised, eating healthy foods, loosing weight, exercising more, journaling, reading, spending more time with family and friends (that list really can seem endless)? Write it down, limit yourself to just one or two things that you want to do in 2017.
Then ask yourself WHY? By achieving what you have written down, how is that going to make you feel?
Because you know what, I reckon that we can make 2017 a year where you start to move away from everything you should be doing, to create your life based on how you want to feel. So, if you are with me, I would love you to comment below (or email me) and let me know how do you want this year to feel to you?
