Have you ever really stopped to look at the daily pressure you place on yourself?
Do you feel at times you are drowning in a sea of high expectations from yourself?
Does it weigh you down?
I am talking about all the extras bits we add to our lives, not about our daily responsibilities. I am referring to the exercise, our food, socialising, an image we feel we need to portray. All the extra bits in our days which can either leave us feeling fantastic or weighed down.
Does any of this sound like you?
I should meditate, it will make me a calmer person
I should exercise harder, I have to loose more weight
I should have a green smoothie, I know they are good for me
I should go out for drinks with my friends, otherwise they will think I am rude
I should eat better, because I am fat
I should ….
I should ….
I should ….
When you are drowning in a world of SHOULD, how are you feeling when your head hits the pillow tonight? I know for me, when I lived in this world of SHOULD I was feeling pretty low, drained and not much sense of accomplishment. Some days seemed like a battle, and I felt like all I was doing was creating a frantic world. One where I was not in control and feeling very anxious.
Have you ever stopped to notice how many times you say the word SHOULD when you are making choices in your day? The first thing, I personally find to make a change, is to bring awareness of this to myself. Have you ever noticed how many times in a day, or in a week, you say the word SHOULD before a decision? If you have not, I would like to challenge you to do this, and if you would like you can email me and let me know how it goes for you.
It is okay for us to move from this world of should, and release ourselves from this pressure, and create a day which excites you, where you are surrounding yourself with the activities and choices you truly are drawn to.
So let us say you would like to add more exercise into your day, however that high intensity running stuff just does not do it for you – how can you move your body in away which nurtures you? There are so many ways for us to move our bodies – yoga, swimming, walking, dancing. What movement suits you?
I would love you to look at this word SHOULD in your life, see how it pops in your life, bring an awareness to how it is making you feel? Acknowledge it. And think about how you want your day to feel? What change can you make to create this?
(Day One: My focus for the month of April, is to blog everyday. I am setting aside 30 minutes at the end of the day to connect with my message to share with you. The idea behind this, is to limit the overthinking, to minimise the censoring and just to connect with a theme I would like to share for the day.)
